BACKGROUND
Fotiu Architects bring a zeal for innovative design and the ability to produce practical, value-added solutions that represent clients’ interests. A deep knowledge of single-family, mixed-use, multifamily, commercial, and hospitality market sectors was cultivated over several years of experience in each.
Steve Fotiu started his architecture career in Greece with ArchGroup, working on high-end hospitality projects, and has now worked in Washington DC since 2002. Previous employment with 2 recognized leaders in global architecture, HOK and HKS, has provided him with invaluable international and local experience. While he began his career as a hospitality designer, creating luxury resort hotels and residences, opportunities in additional market sectors provided experience on commercial, educational, mixed-use, retail, multifamily, and healthcare projects. His local project experience has given him a deep knowledge of DC zoning.
As leader of the architecture studio, he oversees projects from inception through completion. His passion for producing aesthetic designs is coupled with a unique ability to balance programmatic, economic and jurisdictional concerns. Whether at the scale of a master plan or the building, Steve eagerly creates a design vision that suits the client. Once that vision has been established, he is capable of moving projects through all phases of design, from schematic design through detailing and construction administration; intent on maintaining the strength of the original design concept. Clients have come to rely on Steve’s communication skills, unmatched expertise, thoughtful rationale and unwavering desire to make every project a success.
SERVICES
Rowhouse & Single-Family. Fotiu Architects can collaborate with residential clients on new construction, renovations, additions, accessory apartments, and 2-dwelling conversions. The scope can include concept design options, contractor pricing sets, entitlements process, permit submissions, construction documentation and administration.
Light Commercial. Complete design and documentation services can be provided for new construction, renovations for small- to moderately-sized office, multifamily residential, and retail buildings.
Design/Build. Fotiu Architects can provide an integrated design/build team by partnering with select contractors on residential and light commercial projects.
Commercial & Mixed-Use. On larger commercial buildings, design services can be provided through SD or even through DD, to establish the design intent. Fotiu Architects can continue collaborating with the architect of record to ensure design implementation.
